AVOCATS.BE does not work alone. To defend the legal profession, access to justice, and the rule of law, the Bar collaborates with other bars, institutions, and organizations, both in Belgium and abroad.
In Belgium
Orde van Vlaamse Balies (OVB)
The Order of Flemish Bars. AVOCATS.BE and the OVB coordinate on legislative projects and European matters, regularly co-sign position statements, and jointly manage the DP-A platform.
DP-A, Digital Platform for Attorneys
A partnership between AVOCATS.BE, the OVB, and the Bar Orders. DP-A ensures secure access for lawyers to professional platforms, verifies lawyer status, and issues lawyer ID cards.
Superior Council of Justice (CSJ)
It plays a key role in the selection and appointment of judges and exercises external oversight of the justice system. Lawyers sit among its non-judicial members.
Justice-en-ligne
A website offering "a quick and informed overview of significant judicial events."
In Europe and Worldwide
Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE)
Founded in 1960, the CCBE represents European lawyers before European institutions. AVOCATS.BE is represented by delegates and committee members elected by its general assembly, and its European Liaison Office supports the Belgian delegation.
European Bars Institute for Training (EBIT)
Established in 2017 on the initiative of the twin bars of Strasbourg, Luxembourg, and Brussels, the Institute trains lawyer-trainers in the "European reflex," so they can pass on a culture of European law to their peers.
International Association of Lawyers (UIA)
Founded on July 8, 1927, in Charleroi, the UIA is a global and multicultural organization for the legal profession. It defends the independence and freedom of lawyers and supports those who are threatened worldwide.
International Bar Association (IBA)
Founded in 1947, the IBA brings together legal practitioners, bars, and professional associations from around the world.
Lawyers Without Borders (ASF)
An NGO created in Brussels in 1992 by a group of Belgian lawyers. It operates in countries where human rights are violated, with the belief that "the establishment of the rule of law is an essential prerequisite for lasting peace."
